Curriculum vitae

Dr. med. Florian Kretz is a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) and discovered his passion for ophthalmology at an early age. He began his medical studies in 2001 and spent semesters abroad in the USA and the West Indies. He successfully completed his studies at the University of Ulm in 2007. He decided to specialize in ophthalmology at the Eye Clinic of Heidelberg University Hospital, one of the most renowned institutions of its kind. He later worked there as a senior consultant and began to specialize in cataract operations, refractive surgery and research into new surgical methods. He then settled down with a colleague and built up the joint clinic network with several locations in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony.
The desire for innovation, further development and patient-oriented medicine finally led Dr. Kretz to take a new path. He now performs well over 3,000 intraocular procedures per year and is an internationally recognized and renowned specialist in this field. Today, he is also Managing Partner and Medical Director of the Rheine and Greven Eye Day Clinics, the Steinfurt Eye Practice and the Erlangen Eye Practice and Eye Laser Center. He has received numerous international awards for his innovative work, research and social commitment and is a regular invited speaker at all major ophthalmology congresses worldwide.

Together with his wife Nicole Kretz, he supports charitable projects in the field of ophthalmology in his spare time, including as a medical board member of the Khmer Sight Foundation in Cambodia.

Our current studies

The Precise Vision ophthalmologists' locations are renowned study centers whose research results and observational studies have attracted international attention. If you come to us for treatment, depending on your clinical picture, you may have the opportunity to take part in such a study. You would not only support current research, but also benefit from a potentially improved and more individualized treatment method.

A prospective, multicenter, randomized, comparative clinical trial of an implantable contact lens (ICL) to evaluate and compare efficacy, safety and refractive outcomes in moderately to severely myopic patients with coexisting astigmatism.

A prospective, randomized, comparative clinical trial (post-market) of an intraocular lens (IOL) to evaluate and compare clinical outcomes in patients with cataract and astigmatism.

Imparting knowledge

Dr. Kretz maintains his YouTube channel and regularly posts new videos for interested colleagues. In the various videos, Dr. Kretz explains certain procedures and surgical methods in detail.

Microsurgical treatment of a post-traumatic case of mydriasis and aphakia

In this particular case, the patient has post-traumatic mydriasis and aphakia. During the complex microsurgical procedure, I use a three-part intraocular lens (Avensee) from KOWA and fix it using the Yamane technique. I then use a Hattenbach suture to contract and reconstruct the mydriatic pupil.

Modified Yamane technique with a three-piece intraocular lens

In this video I explain how I fix a Kowa three-piece intraocular lens (Avansee) on a patient using a 30G Yamane grasping forceps. Using the forceps during the procedure allows me the precision I need to fixate IOL haptics and bring them into the correct position and anglation.

Micropulse capsulotomy combined with the implantation of a trifocal toric IOL

In this video I demonstrate the advantages of micropulse capsulotomy (Zepto) in combination with a subsequent implantation of a trifocal toric premium lens. In addition to the femtosecond laser, the micropulse procedure is an excellent way of operating with maximum safety and precision.
